This hammered Sterling Silver Torque Day Collar is a hand-forged textured solid 4mm 925 sterling silver open backed collar. A beautifully simple piece with some serious presence.

This rigid 4 millimetre sterling silver torque necklace is shaped to follow the neckline over the collarbone and hand-hammered across the surface, creating a finish that catches and reflects the light differently with every movement. At the centre hangs a smooth sterling silver O ring, creating that unmistakable combination of clean silver, texture, and symbolism.

The necklace is open at the back rather than fastened with a conventional clasp, allowing a little flexibility in fit. It measures approximately 16 inches around, but because of the open-back torque design, it can accommodate a range of neck sizes and can be gently adjusted for placement.

What Is a Torque Necklace?

A torque - also spelled torc - is a rigid or semi-rigid neck ring traditionally worn around the neck with an opening rather than a conventional chain-and-clasp closure. Torcs have a very long history, particularly in Celtic and Viking cultures, where elaborate metal neck rings were worn as jewellery, symbols of status, and objects of personal significance. This is our modern interpretation: streamlined sterling silver, hand-hammered texture, and a contemporary centre ring.

Standard Open-Back Version

With the traditional open-back torque style, the necklace slips around the neck without a conventional clasp.
The centre O ring pendant is removable, allowing you to wear the hammered torque on its own or change the look with another compatible pendant. This version gives you the most versatility and makes the necklace easy to remove whenever you choose.

Locking Clasp Option

For the locking version, I modify the ends of the sterling silver torque by creating attachment points for the rings and locking hardware. Once the locking configuration is added, the necklace can be secured rather than simply slipped on and off. Because of the way the locking hardware is incorporated into the piece, the centre O ring pendant is not removable on the locking version.

Locking Clasp: secure closure + fixed pendant

The Hammered Finish
Every surface is hammered by hand, so no two necklaces will have exactly the same pattern. Those tiny irregular facets are intentional.
